Centro Cultural de la Raza
At first, the Centro Cultural de la Raza was a water storage, but when they made pipes in Balboa Park the place was empty. They decided to make a building for cultural art and dances. Then a artist wanted to paint in the wall something to represent his culture, so he went to Mexico to learn and find inspiration. He started to paint the bad side in the left side, the transition in the middle, and the good side in the right. It took about 15 years for that the painting was finish.
In the Centro Cultural de la Raza, what I most liked was the painting at the wall. I think that it's very interesting and has so much history. What seems like a stormtroopers form Star Wars, I think that it's how the Aztecs saw the Spanish with their armors and advance technology. When there's the solider injecting the cross and his arm was turning bigger, it probably meant that he was praying for God for strength. In the outer part of the building what I mostly liked was the Aztec pyramid and the eagle with the snake because of what they represent in history and my culture.
Chicano Park
In 1890 Mexicans started to move in San Diego and the only part they could live in was the Logan Avenue, which was named after John A. Logan who was in the army and then in the government, but then the community changed the named to Barrio Logan. Then they tried to move the people out of the community to build factories and the community was already divided in half. Anyway they had promise the people a park before, so they protested and didn't allow them to build the factories. After that they let them have their park. Although the park is call Chicano Park everyone helped to make it.
In Chicano Park there are many things to see like the statue of Zapata who is like the Mexican Robin Hood and art that tells the history of Mexico, Chicano Park, and also the paintings have messages for the Public. The History wall was painted by five different people which someone could see the history of Mexico and Chicano Park. Also El Kiosco De Nuestro Parque Chicano tells the foundation of the Aztec capital. Also many people come around the world to see Chicano Park.
