The Chupacabra: Real or Myth?
The Chupacbra is a recent monster that is mostly found in Spanish speaking areas of North and South America. The Chupacabra, which means goatsucker in Spanish, is a very recent cryptid and many don’t know about it. As far that I knew the Chupacabra was that it likes the blood of goats and might have been created by the U.S government or aliens. The Chupacabra is a monster one of a kind because unlike any other monster, the Chupacabra changed form in the year 2000. As a cryptid, it has not been proven its existence. In my opinion the Chupacabra is real, but its origins are still a mystery.
For discovering the existence of the Chupacabra and its origins, I had to take a look at its history. There are many explanations of were this beast came from. The most popular is that it’s an experiment from the U.S. government in Puerto Rico. In the article “Chupacabra: Facts about the Mysterious Vampire Beast” it said “some suggest that it’s an extraterrestrial being, brought to Earth on spaceships” (Radford, October 16,2012). In the year 2000, the beast changed from being an alien-like monster to a canine-like beast. While the other canine-like Chupacabras were fake, people wonder what happen to the original Chupacabra and why it vanished after only a few years. To summarize, the history of the Chupacabra is a key factor to know its existence and origins.
While history is a place to start, I decided to investigate more about the Chupacabra’s origins. Some say it’s a pet animal of alien visitors, result of a NASA experiment gone wrong, or source of the HIV/AIDS virus. In “The Secrets of the Chupacabra: Mystery Solved?” it said “It wasn't until the summer of 1995, in Puerto Rico, that people started connecting the name el Chupacabra with the fearsome four-legged creatures thought to prey on other animals”(Heussner, March 22,2011). Madelyne Tolentino, a housewife in the village of Canovanas, reported seeing the Chupacabra for the first time to the local news. Some people that don’t believe in the Chupacabra think that the movie Species made her think that she saw a Chupacabra. Investigating about the Chupacabra’s origins helped more understanding the Chupacabra more than its history.
Even though I can’t prove the existence of the Chupacabra, I can try to find clues that could help other know that what they see is a Chupacabra or not. In 1995, the Chupacabra was blamed of killing eight sheep with three puncture wounds in the chest and completely drained of blood. In “Chupacabra! Is the mythological creature real?” it said “ in July 2010, there were reports of Chupacabras being shot dead by animal control officer in Hood County, Texas”(Judkins, July 18,2012). The officer of Hood County animal control thought he killed a Chupacabra, but scientist proved that it was a coyote-dog hybrid. On December 18,2010, Mark Cothren shot and killed an animal that he could not recognize and feared. Like I said in the beginning, I can find clues that could help others know that what they see is a Chupacabra or not, even though I can’t prove its existence.
The Chupacabra is a special monster because unlike Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster, the Chupacabra is known for attacking animals. The Chupacabra is blamed for attacking many animals, but its favorite prey are goats. Some may think that it’s useless to know that the Chupacabra exist but there are many reasons like if it is a danger to people or where did it came from? The Chupacabra is not the greatest mystery, but many people would agree that the Media is showing fake photos because the government doesn’t want us to know that alien exist or that they created the Chupacabra. Comparing the Chupacabra with Bigfoot or any other cryptid, the main difference is that there isn’t much evidence about the Chupacabra. Two of the articles are from the Media and say that the Chupacabra might not exist, but the other article says it might exist. In conclusion, I believe the Chupacabra is real even if the odds are against me and I know that it’s important to know that the Chupacabra exist because of its origins.
